Afree, a social networking application has been launched in Nigeria with a plan to kickstart in other African countries for social networking, education, and entertainment with content creators with a reward for users on the platform for Nigerian and African content creators.
Speaking at the product unveiling, held at the University of Lagos, Akoka, Country Representative, Dr Joshua Orabiyi remarked that the creators of the social media application platform have a deep understanding of the African continent, with a youthful populace.
He reiterated that the place of education, entertainment, and technology is in high demand with a huge reward on the platform that can be monetised for the users.
Dr. Orabiyi stated, “The app is built by a citizen of Kyrgyzstan, Joel Abati from the former soviet union. These guys are people who have a heart and will for Africa, as they behave like they are Africans, as I have lived in the Russian Federation with many of them. Just as the app was created as a form of service.
“Hence, the launch of Afree as a platform is created with a Pan-African experience to educate, entertain, connecting, and networking among countries and continents, to enhance and boost user experience on the application.”
While addressing scepticism over exploitation and infringing on users information, he assured that the purpose of the platform is against such foul practices.
The Country representative added, that the social networking app is fully free and can be monetised for gains through a coin system converted to digital cash.
He, however, buttressed that AFree has fully kickstarted in Cameroon with Nigeria being the next country that the mobile application has been launched with Benin Republic and Congo on the radar of the Afree team.
He asserted, “We are already putting in place a team of technical people, which is why we have cyber security even as a course now, or a major course in most universities, I think even in Nigeria.
“We have people who are trying also to block those spaces that are being opened for people to steal.
“I want younger ones also who are here to take this as a charge for those of you who want to pick courses, I will tell you for free that if you are a cyber security person you are needed in our generation and even generations to come,” he stated.
