Sky Run Company, a Chinese manufacturer of household electronics based in the Calabar Free Trade Zone, has praised Governor Senator Bassey Otu for establishing a conducive environment for investment in Cross River State.

During a courtesy visit on Wednesday, the company’s chairman and CEO, George Woo, expressed gratitude to the governor.

In response, Governor Otu expressed his contentment with Sky Run’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts in the state, highlighting their significant contributions to youth development through training and technology initiatives.

The governor thanked Sky Run for participating in the ‘Skill-in-the-Hands’ initiative in collaboration with the state government, which has successfully trained 20 local residents and guaranteed them employment with the company.

He also acknowledged the employment of over 1,000 Nigerians by Sky Run, noting that many of them are from Cross River, playing vital roles in the company’s growth both in the state and nationally.

“I commend you and assure you that we fully support you. Your CSR efforts reflect the true essence of Sky Run as a responsible business. Your mission aligns perfectly with our administration’s ‘People First’ principle,” Otu stated.

He encouraged Cross Riverians working at Sky Run to excel in their positions, enhancing confidence in their employer and serving as proud representatives of the state. The Governor reiterated his administration’s dedication to cultivating a robust local economy to attract private investment.

In his remarks, George Woo thanked the Cross River government and its people for their support over the past 20 years, which he indicated has been crucial for Sky Run’s development. He noted that the company preferentially hires locals and has established a long-term technical partnership with the state to further the ‘Skill-in-the-Hands’ initiative.

Woo explained that this initiative aims to empower state youth and transform them into valuable community members, aligning with Sky Run’s philosophy of “empowering the youth to build the nation and enhance the quality of life.”

He mentioned that 20 youths have graduated from the program, with another 20 currently being inducted, emphasising that this partnership will generate employment, enhance craftsmanship, and support the state’s industrial growth.

He requested ongoing collaboration and support from the Cross River State government.
