Enyimba head coach Finidi George has commended midfielder Chibuike Nwaiwu for his performance in their victory against Heartland.
Finidi believed that the energetic midfielder had an impressive display in his makeshift role as a centre-back following an injury to Pascal Eze in the game.
He said that Nwaiwu will play a crucial role for the People’s Elephant ahead of the remaining matches of the season.
Enyimba secured a 1-0 win in the game.
Ekene Awazie’s solitary goal earned the nine-time league champions three points in the game.
“Nwaiwu has been doing so well as a centre-back,” he told Enyimba’s media.
“For that position, you need a fast player and I think he has that quality—calmness and speed—for which an opponent can’t just overrun him and think they can score.
“He is helping us for now. We have eight more games as we have to see the form of other players in that role; if they are performing well, we have to return him to the midfield. We otherwise might bring in a midfielder. But at the moment, Nwaiwu remains our centre-back.”
