…urges Nigerians to use responsibly for national growth
From Charity Nwakaudu, Abuja
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation, Mr. Richard Pheelangwah said no nation can excel without water and proper management of it.
Mr. Pheelangwah stated this at a sensitization walk ahead of this year’s global water day in Abuja
He explained that the walk underscores the importance of water in society.
“The walk underscores the importance of water in society. Water is life and today has been set aside by the United Nations to celebrate water all over the world. Actually today is the sensitization stage. Tomorrow is the actual stage. As federal minister of water resources we are sensitizing people to celebrate water in our country” He said
On his part, Director of Water Resources Planning and Technical Support Services in the Ministry, Mr. Adeyinka Adenopo called on Nigerians to make adequate use of the free gift of nature stressing that though water is everywhere but there are still people that lack adequate and clean water in the country.
“I want to call on Nigerians. Let’s manage our resource, especially this grace resource that God has blessed us with. We should not throw it about.
“We should not throw it anyhow. We should make sure that we manage what we have in terms of the quantity and in terms of the quality. So many people out there are looking for the opportunity to have water.”
“That this year 2025 was initially marked as the year to end open defecation. But because of the work that is still outstanding at hand, it has been extended to 2030. I believe that we are making so much impact and we shall see as we go.”
Staffers of the Ministry turned out in large numbers to raise awareness for 2025 World Water Day, scheduled to be observed nationwide on Saturday, March 22.
