From Abdurrazaq Mungadi, Gombe
The federal government has launched a campaign in Gombe State to sensitise residents on the importance of President Bola Tinubu’s proposed tax reforms.
The National Orientation Agency (NOA) inaugurated the campaign on Thursday, also addressing issues such as security, World AIDS Day, human rights, and the Get Rich Quick Syndrome.
Speaking at the launch, the agency’s Director General, Larne Issa-Onilu, said the campaign underscores the agency’s commitment to mobilising Nigerians to unite in tackling key issues and fostering a more informed, secure, and ethical society.
He noted that Tinubu’s tax reform aims to streamline Nigeria’s tax system, making it more efficient and beneficial for citizens. The proposed reforms include the Nigeria Tax Bill, the Nigeria Tax Administration Bill, the Nigeria Revenue Service Establishment Bill, and the Joint Revenue Board Establishment Bill.
Represented by the Director of Planning, Research, and Strategy, Alhaji Nuru Yusuf Kobi, Issa-Onilu explained that the reforms would eliminate double taxation, support low-income earners, simplify processes, and increase the visibility of tax benefits in the country.
Adaline Waye Patari, the agency’s director in Gombe, highlighted the need for collective effort, urging stakeholders such as traditional and religious leaders, civil society organisations, youth and women groups, and the media to join the campaign.
She stated, “We call on citizens to embrace the campaign with the understanding that building the Nigeria of our dreams requires collective responsibility. Every action you take, no matter how small, contributes to the greater good. Together, we can overcome the challenges that confront us and build a Nigeria that we and future generations can be proud of.”
