Federal Government has commended the Gombe State Government for its policies which are further encouraging skills acquisition, especially among school children.
The commendation was made by the Minister of Education, Prof Tahir Mamman while playing host to the Gombe State Commissioner of Education, Dr. Aishatu Umar Maigari at his office in Abuja on Friday.
The Minister said that the Gombe State 10-year development plan, the establishment of Mega Colleges, the improvement of the existing technical and vocational colleges and the ongoing establishment of Muhammadu Buhari Industrial Park are in line with the Federal Government initiatives on the National Skills Framework (NSF).
The framework according to the Minister, is designed to provide the appropriate skills for each level of education from Primary to Tertiary levels that will result in the empowering of generations of Nigerians on the evolving needs of the 21st century global economy.
Mamman also said that in addition to addressing skills gaps, quality of education and unemployment concerns when fully implemented, the framework will also provide for skills certification in line with the Renewed Hope of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Earlier, the Gombe State Commissioner of Education, Dr Aishatu Umar Maigari briefed the Minister on the conducted UNESCO Project in Gombe where over 1000 IDPs were trained on psychosocial support, sports for peace and selected women and youths were trained and presented with Starter packs in various trades and skills to include hairdressing, Knitting, catering, shoe making and Barbing among others.
The Commissioner also informed the Minister that the Gombe State Government in collaboration with the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) will soon accredit and upgrade the state Science and Technical Colleges and some selected centres in the state to centres of excellence in skills acquisition in line with international best practices.
She also said that the Gombe State Government under the visionary leadership of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya is aligning the education sector to fit into the 10-year Gombe State Development plan tagged DEVAGOM 2021-2030.
This according to the Commissioner is aimed at fast-tracking development such as the ongoing Muhammadu Buhari Industrial Park which is one of its kind in northern Nigeria and will create job opportunities for the teeming youth in the state and lure investors within and outside the country.
