The Federal Government has lauded Cross River State for its proactive efforts in combating climate change and raising awareness about its impact, aligning with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF),George Akume, delivered this commendation during a courtesy visit by contestants of the 2025 Miss Africa Pageant, led by reigning Miss Africa, Precious Okoye, in Abuja.
According to a statement Director, Information and Public Relations, Segun Imohiosen, the SGFpraised the state’s choice of “Climate Change” as the theme for the 2025 Miss Africa Pageant, urging contestants to use their platforms to advocate for climate action. He emphasized the importance of addressing climate change for food security and sustainable development, noting that such initiatives are crucial to Nigeria’s environmental goals.
Miss Precious Okoye highlighted her role as Miss Africa, stating that it has enabled her to empower women through agro-industrialization, fostering productivity and societal contributions.
Special Assistant to the Governor of Cross River State on Tourism Development, Tomas Ikpeme, underscored that this year’s pageant goes beyond promoting tourism by serving as a platform to drive impactful societal awareness.
He also extended an invitation to Akume for the 7th edition of the pageant, scheduled for April 20, 2025, at the Calabar International Convention Centre.
The event will feature contestants from diverse African nations, including Algeria, Mali, Liberia, Malawi, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Ghana, Botswana, Kenya, and Mozambique. With its focus on climate change advocacy and international representation, the pageant reinforces Cross River State’s commitment to environmental sustainability and global collaboration.
