Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike, has said that the FCT Administration under his watch is fulfilling the promises made by President Bola Tinubu to the people during his campaign.
The minister disclosed this on Tuesday during the inauguration of the Kabusa-Ketti road construction project in the nation’s capital, Abuja.
Wike, who said Mr President directed him to ensure even development in Abuja, also assured that providing access roads to the people will reduce their pains, encourage farmers to return to their farms and help reduce insecurity.
He said, “On this occasion, let me thank the people of Kabusa and Ketti who have shown appreciation by coming out in large numbers to support this very important program. I said yesterday when we were in Kabusa, flagging off Kabusa to Ushafa, that it is the responsibility of the government and part of the Renewed Hope agenda that our efforts should not focus only on development in the city.
“Mr President has directed that we must also open up all the satellite paths, and that is why I am here today in Kabusa-Ketti. Let me apologise. As the chairman of AMAC said, it is unfortunate that the traditional ruler was killed last year. It is really unfortunate, and I extend our condolences to the people of Kabusa and Ketti.
“As the contractor has said, this road will be commissioned before or during the second anniversary of Mr. President. Money for this project is not a problem. It is not a project that will be abandoned. We don’t award projects that will become abandoned. We start the project, and we must complete the project. And for the first time, you can see that we are providing roads and, at the same time, providing streetlights. That is the way to improve security.
“We have come to tell you that we know what you face, and we feel your pain. We are here to solve your problems, and that is what Mr. President has sent us to do.
“And let me assure you, I have seen what you have written there. Without even saying it, let me approve that Ketti will get a senior secondary school.
“Part of the promises he made was that he’s going to provide access roads to our people, reduce their pains, make farmers return to their farms, and ensure that this security problem we have is reduced.”
“And that is why he has come today to fulfil the promise he made. That’s why we say government agreement is agreement. It is now his turn to do something for you. Now that you have voted for him, he will also fulfil his part of the agreement.
“Note that Mr. President has come through me to fulfil the promise he made. Look at all the area councils. It has never happened before. We are now going to dualise the Kuje to Gwagwalada road. We have already dualised the one in Kuje. Go there at night, and you will see the street lights in Kuje.
“So, by the time we finish the airport road to Kuje, you won’t need to come to Abuja to stay. You can live in Kuje, commute to Abuja for work, and return within 15 minutes. That’s what government is all about, and that’s what this administration is doing.”
Earlier, in his welcome address, the Chairman of Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Hon. Zakka Maikalangu, praised Wike’s leadership style and thanked Mr President for appointing him as FCT Minister.
He said, “I am sure that the good people of Abuja Municipal Area Council are already seeing the benefits of having Barrister Ezenwo Nyesom Wike as the Hon. Minister in the FCT. We sincerely want to say thank you to the Hon. Minister. We are confident that you have made history as a great transformer and a game changer.
“It may interest you to know that, as your beloved son, I have learnt quickly from your renowned leadership style and responsive governance, translating the same in my area council. I would be glad if you could make time to come and commission some of our already completed projects in AMAC.
“My stakeholders at AMAC have asked me to use this opportunity to thank Mr President, His Excellency, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu, GCFR, for bringing you to our rescue. They have also sent me to thank you for remembering the owners of the land.”
