A Lagos-based father of two, Alimi Razaq, has appealed to Nigerians to help save his three-year-old daughter, Oluwadamilola, from a life-threatening condition.
Razaq explained that his daughter sustained severe burns after a pot of boiling meat fell on her while she was heading to their room for breakfast. The hot liquid splashed directly onto her stomach, causing significant burns.
He recalled being out for his driving job on June 18, 2024 when his wife called to inform him of the incident.
Oluwadamilola was immediately rushed to Afolabi Hospital in Oworoshoki, Lagos, for treatment.
However, Razaq lamented that despite spending over N100,000, the hospital only administered drips and provided little relief.
Razaq said, “We stayed at the hospital for over a week, but my daughter’s condition did not improve. All they did was give her drips and some medication. We ended up paying a total of N160,000 without any improvement.”
Following advice from others, Razaq decided to move his daughter to a different hospital, as it was suggested that Afolabi Hospital lacked the capability to handle such severe burns.
Unfortunately, by this time, Razaq had exhausted his savings.
Razaq said his plight worsened when their rented apartment collapsed, injuring both his daughters, including Oluwadamilola, who was already suffering from burns.
“My world shattered when that happened. I had no choice but to rush my daughters to the general hospital,” he said.
Upon arriving at the general hospital, Razaq was asked to purchase several medications.
After a month with no improvement, doctors recommended skin surgery, explaining that the burns would not heal without it.
However, Razaq, whose family had already spent all their money, could not afford the N600,000 required for the surgery.
He initially assumed that costs would be lower at a government hospital, only to find out that it was a teaching hospital with higher expenses.
In his plea, Razaq said, “I can’t afford the hospital bills, and my wife’s provision shop has been depleted. We’ve lost everything. My daughter is in severe pain, and she’s only three years old. I need help to save her life. She has been in this pain for over two months now. Please, help me.”
Razaq is appealing to individuals and organisations to support his family and help raise the funds needed for Oluwadamilola’s surgery.
