The Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Bethrand Onuoha, has presented cheques worth N39m to the 25 families of deceased officers on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

This was contained in a statement issued by the command’s spokesman, SP William Aya, on Thursday.

He said that while the CP was presenting the cheques on Wednesday, he disclosed that “the gesture was part of the Group Life Assurance and Group Personal Accident Insurance Schemes aimed at improving the welfare of the families of deceased police officers and to also support police officers who became accident victims while carrying out their duty.”

The CP said that the gesture was also to encourage other officers in active service to be diligent.

“The Nigeria Police Force recognises the sacrifices made by the deceased officers as well as those who are accident victims to secure the nation.” The CP said.

He urged the beneficiaries not to misuse the money but to make judicious use of it for the betterment of their families.

The beneficiaries appreciated the IG for the gesture and promised to make use of the money for the benefit of their families.
