The Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, on Sunday, urged the people of the state to accord the incoming administration of Senator Monday Okpebholo the kind of cooperation and support given to his administration.
Arogidigba Global Journal reports that Governor Obaseki’s eight years in office would come to an end on November 12, 2024, after the swearing-in of Senator Monday Okpebholo, the Governor-elect of the state.
Okpebholo, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, for the September 21, 2024 governorship, defeated the candidate of the outgoing governor’s Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Asue Ighodalo, at the election.
Obaseki, while speaking during a Thanksgiving service and dedication of the reconstructed Government House’s Chapel, thanked God for His support, protection and provision throughout his eight years in office as governor of the state.
“As governor and father of the state, I have been asked to give a charge and my charge is as follows: Dear heavenly father, we come before you with a grateful heart, thanking you for blessing and progress in Edo State.
“As we are transiting into a new administration, I urged each and every one of you in the name of God to extend the level of cooperation and support to my administration to the incoming administration.
“Let us continue to work together towards a brighter future for Edo State and Nigeria and we have no other country.
“To the people of Edo State, I extend my gratitude for your partnership and cooperation throughout our tenure; your trust, encouragement and passion have fuelled our passion to deliver impactful projects and processes that have transformed our state,” he said.
The outgoing governor, who, however, added that though he is leaving as governor of the state, noted that he is “not leaving Edo State.”
He also thanked the people of the state for their prayers and commitment to the progress of the state.
Obaseki said the chapel being dedicated would serve as testimony and enduring spirit to the Edo people and the good things that would be accomplished in the state.
He added that his administration worked tirelessly to leave an enduring impact across multiple sectors, including education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, economic empowerment and many others.
