Former Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, NUC, Peter Okebukola has said Nigeria must key into technological advancements in order to foster creative innovation, and empower the coming generation.

Okebukola explained that while digital technology can assist to preserve Africa’s cultural history, it also provides chances for artistic expression, creativity and collaboration.

He stated this at a workshop organized by UNESCO Institute for African Culture and International Understanding, IACIU, in Abeokuta on Thursday.

Okebukola, while speaking on the theme, ‘Tech Craft: Exploring Digital Technology in Cultural Artists’, stated that the programme was put together not only to learn new techniques but also to reimagine the future of cultural arts and creating a vibrant, inclusive and dynamic artistic community.

He said, “Tech Craft is designed to explore these opportunities, bringing together artists, technologists, educators, and enthusiasts to delve into how digital technology can enhance and transform cultural artist training.

“We believe that by embracing digital technology, we can preserve cultural heritage, foster creative innovation, and empower the next generation of artists.

“In today’s rapidly evolving digital landscape, the intersection of technology and culture offers unprecedented opportunities for artistic expression, innovation, and collaboration.”

The programme engaged with leaders, industry experts and visionary artists who are at the forefront of integrating digital tools with traditional artistic practices.
