Former Minister of Communications, Major Gen. Tajudeen Olanrewaju (Rtd), has mourned the death of former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Lt. Gen. Jeremiah Timbut Useni, describing him as a nationalist and a good reference of service to the people of Nigeria.
Gen. Useni passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2025, at the age of 81.
Gen. Olanrewaju, who is also a former General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division Nigerian Army, said this in a statement issued by his media office, a copy of which was available to newsmen, and further described the deceased as one imbued with a very accommodating human spirit and loved by many.
The former minister said the late Gen. Useni remained a good reference of service to the people as a public and social person, recalling working with him as a junior in the then Provisional Ruling Council (PRC) as well as in the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
According to him, the deceased was a stabilising and highly respected Minister of the Federal Republic, a nationalist and loyal statesman, saying that his death “will be felt by us, all his friends and all those communities where he had served.”
He prayed that God should grant General Useni eternal rest, forgive his sins, and give comfort to his family.
“General J.T. Useni, sleep well in the garden of peace of the Lord. Your human spirit was very accommodating, loved by many.
“Although very much higher in seniority to most of us, we worked together in the Provisional Ruling Council (PRC) as well as in the Federal Executive Council (FEC).
“General JT Useni was a stabilising and highly respected, upbeat minister of the Federal Republic. He was a nationalist and loyal statesman,” Olanrewaju said.
“His death will be felt by us, all his friends, and all those communities where he had served. May Allah forgive his sins and give comfort to his family,” he prayed.
