Former Liverpool player Steve Nicol has advised the Reds to sell Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid, as he feels that Conor Bradley is a superior defender.
Speculation surrounding 25-year-old Alexander-Arnold has been mounting, with his contract set to expire in 2025 and Real Madrid reportedly keen to sign him.
Nicol has argued that if Madrid were to offer £60-80 million for him, Liverpool should take the opportunity to cash in, as Bradley is just as talented.
While Alexander-Arnold is a creative force with two goals and 10 assists in 29 games this season, Nicol believes Bradley’s defensive skills trump his.
However, Nicol did acknowledge that the decision would ultimately depend on the future manager’s vision for the club.
“I don’t care who you support. Trent Alexander-Arnold isn’t a good defender. If [Real] Madrid were to offer, I don’t know, £60, £70, £80 million, when you have a kid in Conor Bradley who is a miles better defender, great going forward, but in the same class as Trent,” Nicol told ESPN.
“So it depends on the next manager, whether it’s a possibility.”
