Akwa Ibom state governor pastor Umo Eno has charged members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state to continue to display unity of purpose and appealed to party faithfuls to sustain peaceful disposition shown during the last elective ward congress conducted across the 368 wards in the state last weekend.
Speaking in his ward at Ibiakpan Obotim Ward 2, Nsit Ubium, Local Government Area of the State , Eno expressed satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of the congress and particularly hailed party faithfuls for what he described as unity of purpose.
He charged the newly elected Executives of the Ward to be committed and dedicated to the growth of the Party and members, adding that the successful outcome of the congress was an indication that the party was ready for the forthcoming local government elections.
His words: “From the report we have received across the state, the Congress went well and all the party guidelines and principles were observed.
“We have our party representatives from Abuja, independent observers as well as INEC around. So all the requirements were met. It’s been a very peaceful congress and we trust God that this is how it will continue”
The State Chairman of the PDP, Elder Aniekan Akpan while receiving reports from Returning Officers from the 368 wards said the process was very peaceful and smooth indicating the readiness of the party to participate and win the upcoming local government elections scheduled for October in the state .
Addressing the large crowd of PDP members in Oron, the state deputy governor, Her Excellency, Akon Eyakenyi lauded the Party for ensuring that every member has a sense of belonging which is reflected in the massive show of support and love during the Congress.
The Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong said the outcome of the PDP Congress was the confirmation that Akwa Ibom remains a stronghold of the PDP and expressed confidence that the Party will continue to record overwhelming success in elections.
A statement released by the Publicity Secretary of PDP Mr Borono Bassey and made available to Journalists in Uyo on Sunday indicated that the party ward congress was peaceful and successful in all the wards in the state .
Borono said in Ubium North Ward 3, the political leader of Uyo Senatorial District, Senator Effiong Bob said the Congress was in fulfilment of PDP’s avowed commitment to upholding the tenets of democracy.
He said Bob while congratulating the new Ward Executive charged them to always put the interest of the Party first in their actions .
“In Ubium North Ward 2, the Congress witnessed a high turnout of members as the Chief Protocol to the Governor, Mr Otobong Edemidiong praised party faithful for their unflinching love and support.
“In Etinan Local Government, the Congress also held peacefully in Etinan South Ward 2, Etinan Urban Ward 1, and Northern Iman Ward 1, among others.”
However , the member representing Etinan/Nsit Ubium/Nsit Ibom Federal Constituency in the Federal House of Representatives, Hon Paul Ekpo have expressed satisfaction over the conduct of the ward congress in his constituency.
