The chairman of the Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Linus Nto Mbah, has urged politicians to emulate the late former governor of Abia State, Ogbonnaya Onu, in promoting unity of the country.
Mbah, who spoke at the inter-denominational commendation service held in honour of the former governor in Umuahia, said that Onu was a patriotic Nigerian who played politics without bitterness.
He noted that the former governor did not disrespect the traditional rulers or the traditional institution, but showed healthy respect for them.
Eze Mba, who advised politicians from Igboland and other parts of the country to emulate the former governor and minister, recalled how the first civilian governor of the state established a broadcasting house, newspaper, university and college of education, among other projects.
He said that the Abia State governor took the best decision by honouring the former governor with an interdenominational commendation service.
Meanwhile, many students of Abia State Polytechnic Aba have reacted to the renaming of their institution after the former Abia Governor. They said there is nothing wrong with the renaming of their institution after Ogbonnaya Onu.
Some of the students who spoke with Arogidigba Global Journal, including Ugochi Nneka Awurum and Chijioke Benard, said that they were more interested in uninterrupted academic activities and quality education than the name that would appear on their certificates.
