Several major awards and events have been postponed or canceled due to the spread of wildfires in Los Angeles, which have destroyed numerous homes and claimed lives.
Tribune Online reports that the County Fire Department estimates over 1,000 structures have been destroyed in the Palisades fire, with another 1,000 either damaged or destroyed in the Eaton fire.
Here is a list of events and awards canceled due to the wildfire.
1. Critics Choice Awards
The Critics Choice Awards, held in Santa Monica, has been moved from 12 January to 26 January.
Joey Berlin, CEO of the Critics Choice Association, said,”This unfolding tragedy has already had a profound impact on our community.
“All our thoughts and prayers are with those battling the devastating fires and with all who have been affected.”
2. Bafta Tea Party
A networking event hosted by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts, originally scheduled to take place at The Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills on Saturday, 11 January, has been cancelled.
3. Writers Guild of America (WGA) Nominations
The WGA nominations, originally planned for Thursday, 9 January, will no longer take place as scheduled.
Hacks star Jean Smart made a public request for TV networks and streamers to “seriously consider not televising” forthcoming awards shows, given the circumstances.
She also asked broadcasters to donate “the revenue they would have garnered to victims of the fires and the firefighters” instead.

4. Back in Action Premiere
The New York premiere of Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx’s comedy ‘Back in Action’, scheduled for Thursday, has been cancelled in a show of solidarity.
Netflix stated: “We recognize many in our industry and their loved ones are currently affected, and our thoughts are with them at this time.”
Ben Affleck was seen helping his ex-wife Jennifer Garner and their children move away from the fires.
5. Jennifer Lopez’s Movie Premiere
The premiere of Jennifer Lopez’s movie ‘Unstoppable’ was cancelled by Amazon MGM Studios.
6. Universal Studios’ ‘Wolf Man’ Premiere
Universal Studios also cancelled the premiere of ‘Wolf Man’ on the same day.
7. Paramount and Max Premieres
The premiere of ‘Better Man’, the Robbie Williams biopic, was cancelled by Paramount, and the premiere of ‘The Pitt’ was cancelled by Max.
8. Margaret Cho’s Weekend Gigs
Comedian Margaret Cho cancelled her weekend gigs in LA and urged people to “stay safe” via Instagram.
