From Ighomuaye Lucky, Benin

The Edo State government has assured the people of the state that individuals whose lands or properties were illegally taken or destroyed by past government would be compensated for by the present administration of Senator Monday Okpebholo.

The government said it is aware that the previous government acquired some community lands and properties without paying compensation.

The Attorney General of the State and Commissioner for Justice, Samson Osagie, stated this at the weekend at Evbuokoyi in Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of the State during a thank you party for the people of his constituency in appreciation of their support.

Osagie said the government is already righting the wrongs to ensure harmony in the state.

According to Osagie,
“there are so many landed properties of Edo citizens who have worked hard and invested in the state that were forcefully acquired without compensation.

“This administration is going to make sure where those properties are, are compensated while those that need to be released, will be released to their owners.”

Continuing, Osagie assured the people that the present administration will look into all the complaints and make sure that those who need to be compensated get what is due to them as no one will be left unattended to.

He stated that every Edo person will get justice in the state, adding, “That is not to say that, if there are things the government wants to take responsibility that government will not do it.

“All law suits that are capable of derailing the government will be thoroughly handled by my ministry so as to prevent any distractions.

“My ministry will provide the legal services to the government to make sure justice is delivered.

“My ministry will provide the legal advice to the governor to ensure governance have a human face where there will be no oppression and victimization in the state.”

Also speaking during the thank you party, the member representing Uhunmwonde and Orhionmwon constituency in the House of Representative, Honourable Billy Osawaru told the people of Uhunmwonde to forget the past and work together to make the local government grow.

He promised to ensure that what is due to Uhunmwonde gets to them.

Meanwhile, honourable Washington Osifo appealed to the people of Uhunmwonde to join hands together to make the local government great again.

He urged that the division in Uhunmwonde should stop back bitting and think of how to move the local government forward.
