Amidst the confusion over legitimate bearer of All Progressives Congress ticket for Edo State Governorship election, one of the three “candidates”, Honourable Anamero Sunday Dekeri, stormed the party national secretariat in Abuja on Monday to demand for Certificate of Return.
Checks revealed that while the panel led by Imo Governor, Senator Hope Uzodinnma, declared Dennis Idahosa as winner of the Primary, the duo of Honourable Anamero Dekeri and Senator Monday Okpebholo equally emerged at parallel primaries held same weekend in Benin City.
Investigation revealed that Honourable Dekeri, who stormed the party national secretariat in the afternoon, submitted a formal letter, requesting that he be accorded recognition and presented with the Certificate of Return.
Party source revealed that in the letter personally signed by the federal lawmaker representing Etsako Federal Constituency, he claimed to have polled the highest number of votes and should be recognised by the APC NWC.
The lawmaker was returned as the winner of the Saturday APC primary by the local government returning officers for the 2024 Edo State APC governorship primary election.
Further checks revealed that spokesperson of the local government returning officers, Mr Ojo Babatunde who announced the result on Saturday night said Dekeri polled a total number of 25,384 to defeat his closest rival Dennis Idahosa who scored 14,127 votes.
The seven-man panel led by the Imo governor is expected to formally present its report to the APC national chairman, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje this week.
