Pastor Azemhe Azena has emerged the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, candidate for the Edo State September 21, 2024 governorship election.
Arogidigba Global Journal reports that Azemhe polled a total of 211 votes in the primary conducted on Friday in Benin City to defeat three other aspirants to clinch the party’s gubernatorial ticket
Recall that Azemhe had last month resigned from the Labour Party over alleged ill-treatment against him and his supporters by the Akoko-Edo Local Government chairman of the party during his campaign team’s visit to the locality.
He, however, defected to the New Nigeria People’s Party to pursue his political aspiration of governing Edo State.
Other aspirants are Sebastian Iyere 25 votes, Balogun Engealeyeme Sunday 17 votes and Peter Okoeguale 100 votes.
With his emergence as the party’s candidate, Azemhe would now slug it out with candidates of other political parties for the Dennis Osadebey Avenue government house.
He will be contesting against Senator Monday Okpebholo, Asue Ighodalo and Olumide Akpata of the APC, the PDP and the Labour Party, respectively.
Other candidates to contest the governorship seat are Paul Obazele, a Nollywood veteran Actor and Director of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, and Bishop Akhalame of the Zenith Labour Party, ZLP, among others.
