Edo State Government through the Ministry of Roads and Bridges has embarked on desiltation and maintenance of flood water receptacles (drains and manholes) to tackle the menace of flood water in the Benin City metropolis.
Drains presently under desiltation and maintenance by the ministry are at Ekehuan, Okhoro, Oluku, Third East Circular, Stadium and Akenzua roads, College road and environs, Sapele road from MM Way junction, Siluko road, Sapele road etc.
In spite of the continual rainfall, the Water Re-injection Schemes at the Legislative Quarters, Boundary road right around Adesuwa Road Junction and the ones situated at Ihama are presently under desiltation and maintenance to enable them take water back into the earth.
The water receptacles which were built up by government are being maintained by the ministry of Roads and Bridges to enable them accommodate flood water through channels such as drains and culverts to avoid erosion and incessant flooding in Benin City.
Meanwhile, some residents of Benin have applauded the State Government’s initiative to desilt and maintain drains to protect lives and property, saying it is timely as the rains become so intensed.
