The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Akwa Ibom State Command said it has deployed 662 personnel, 10 patrol vehicles, two ambulances and one tow truck for effective coverage of critical areas to enhance visibility and prevent road crash during the Easter celebration.
The Sector Commander of FRSC in the State, Mr Matthew Olonisaye, who disclosed this in a statement issued in Uyo, warned motorists to be cautious while using the roads, obey all traffic rules and regulations to stay alive and celebrate with their loved ones.
Olonisaye said the personnel and materials deployed would ensure prompt rescue and response to distress calls and speedy removal of obstructions from the highways.
“To enhance the Corps’ visibility and ensure adequate and strategic deployment of personnel and material resources and to ensure free-flow of traffic for ease of doing business in Akwa Ibom State, as well as align with the Corps strategic goal of five per cent reduction in road traffic deaths and injuries.
“A total of 662 operatives, including Special Marshals have been strategically deployed ahead of the Easter Season Celebration to man major routes in the state for traffic control/calming while 10 Patrol Vehicles two Ambulances and one Tow Truck are deployed for effective coverage of critical areas,” Olonisaye said.
The sector commander warned against dangerous driving, wrongful overtaking, driving against traffic, speeding and overloading the vehicles with passengers and goods.
“Remember! Life has neither duplicate nor, spare parts. So, we must consciously strive to protect and safeguard our lives, especially while using or sharing the roads with others, realising that our family members, friends and well-wishers eagerly wait to receive and welcome us back home alive,” he said.
The sector commander called on all road users to remain active by observing traffic rules and regulations; obey all traffic signs, apply common sense speed limits at best and promptly report any road incident and other emergencies to the FRSC.
