The Chairman, National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko, has promised to support Nigeria’s golfers ahead of the country’s qualifiers for the 2025 Qatar Open Championships.
Dikko made this known in Abuja on Wednesday when officials of the High Performance Centre and Sports Leadership Hub, led by Dr Bob Olukoya, visited his office.
The NSC boss emphasised the private sector’s role in developing Nigerian sports and athletes while commending HPCSLH’s initiatives.
“We need more private organisations to follow HPCSLH’s example in supporting sports development,” Dikko said.
Olukoya assured that Nigerian representatives at the Qatar Open would make the country proud.
“Our goal is not just to participate but to win the Qatar Open in Doha. This would automatically qualify our golfer for the Qatar Masters, which is part of the DP World tour,” he said.
The qualifiers, tagged ‘the Sun Open’, will hold from January 21 to 24 at Python Golf Club, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The winner and a wild card pick by HPCSLH will represent Nigeria at the Qatar Open in February 2025.
