Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State has expressed grief and condoled with the families of the victims of the boat accident that claimed Nollywood actor, Junior Pope, and others.
He described their death as excruciating and unfortunate.
PUNCH Online reports that the four actors, including Junior Pope, lost their lives in a boat accident on Anam River on their way to a movie location.
Oborevweri said that the state government was agonised over the untimely death of actors.
The governor’s condolence message was contained in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Festus Ahon, on Sunday in Asaba, the state capital.
He said, “On behalf of my family, the government and people of Delta State, I commiserate with the Nollywood industry and families of those who lost their lives in the unfortunate boat accident.
“Perhaps the deaths could have been avoided if the necessary safety measures were adhered to.
“May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in eternal peace,”
The governor prayed God to grant the families, friends, and associates of the victims the fortitude to bear the loss.
