The book “Dance of a Drummer” written by Dr Kyan Ukwen of the Department of Theatre and Film Studies, Taraba State University, Jalingo, is set to be performed live on stage for the first time on Tuesday, as directed by final year Directing students of the department.
The author, Dr Ukwen who disclosed this to our correspondent on Monday said that the project which is supervised by Mr Alex Pwatildi gives the students an opportunity to have first-hand experience directing a play written by one of theirs for its first stage performance.

“Dance of a Drummer goes on Stage on 23rd July 2024, the play, Dance of a Drummer written by Kyan Ukwen will appear on stage for the first time as a full-length play at the performance theatre of Taraba State University, Jalingo.
“Supervised Mr. Alex Pwatildi, final year students of Directing in the Department of Theatre and Film Studies tried their hands on a play written by their own teacher. The workshop project is a collaboration of 400 and 200-level classes in the Department.
“The play’s theme revolves around the social, political and economic issues in today’s society. The relevance of the play at this time cannot be overemphasized. Everyone of us needs the message contained in the play” Dr Ukwen said.
The supervisor of the project, Mr Pwatildi told our Correspondent that “our audience shouldn’t miss this for anything. We’ve put in everything to make it worth their while. This is a great honour for the author to allow this to fly on our stage here. Other authors would have preferred to go on greater stage but he chose to allow it to fly here”.
