Electricity consumers in Gashua Road in Damaturu, the Yobe State capital have expressed dissatisfaction with the current electricity distribution system implemented by Yola Electricity Distribution Company, YEDC.
The residents through Public Relations Officer, Gashua Road Youth Awareness, Musa Ali Maigari, noted that the recent announcement on the YEDC’s portal regarding the distribution schedule has caused considerable confusion and frustration among members of the community.
“The information provided on the portal is insufficient, as it only mentions Band A without clarifying how Bands B and C operate.
“This lack of clarity has left us uncertain about our electricity allocation and the expected hours of supply. As a result, we are unable to plan our daily activities effectively”, Maigari said.
According to the PRO, the residents, including community leaders, viewed the current situation as disrespectful and unfair.
“We emphasize the importance of engaging with the community and its leaders before making such significant decisions”, he stated.
The community through the PRO demand a more strategic and balanced distribution that provides them with at least 4 hours of electricity in the morning, 4 hours in the afternoon, and 4 hours at night.
With the current electricity distribution schedule in the state capital, the consumers said their businesses and household activities are being affected.
“We have given YEDC Damaturu management 48 hours to respond to our concerns.
“Should we not receive a satisfactory response within this timeframe, we are prepared to escalate our complaint directly to the YEDC main branch in Yola”, the community threatened.
