Eighteen months after operating from a makeshift office, Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, is set to move into the newly remodeled office before the end of December.
The office building, which was previously in a state of disrepair, had been considered for demolition and reconstruction due to functional challenges. However, the Governor opted for remodeling as a cost-effective and time-saving solution.
Speaking during the inspection tour of the project, the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Emmanuel Ironbar, emphasised the Governor’s commitment to preserving the building’s legacy while ensuring its transformation into a modern workspace.
“The contractors initially recommended demolition, but the Governor insisted on remodeling, which was both financially economical. If the Governor could work from a makeshift office for 18 months and still deliver 181 projects, much more is expected from every public servant in terms of dedication and productivity,” Ironbar stated.
He further highlighted the significance of the project, noting that it has the potential to enhance the state’s image and attract investors.
“If this building had not been in such a poor condition, there wouldn’t have been a need for renovation. A functional and aesthetically pleasing office reflects the seriousness of our government and inspires confidence in those who engage with us,” he said.
“The Governor envisioned a smart office for himself and his staff. We assessed the structure and found it to be fundamentally sound, though the interior was in disarray. With the Governor’s directive, we created an office space that meets international standards. We are proud to announce that the project will be handed over,” the contractor handling the project disclosed.
Similarly, Special Adviser on Project Monitoring, Mr. Ralph Murphy, commended the progress made on the Governor’s Office and other projects across the state.
“Among the 181 projects delivered under the administration, this office building stands out as a legacy project. Proper documentation is underway to ensure every milestone is thoroughly reviewed and celebrated,” Murphy said.
