Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja has granted permission to the Department of the State Service, DSS, to detain a suspected terrorist, Ibrahim Nasiru for 60 days.
The 60 days detention, for thorough investigation into the myriad of allegations against the suspect, is to begin from August 27.
Justice Lifu issued the order on Tuesday in Abuja while delivering ruling in an ex-parte application brought before him by DSS.
The ex-parte application was argued by Barrister Yunusa Idris Umar on behalf of the DSS.
The lawyer informed the court that the suspected terrorist was apprehended on July 29 and was brought before a Magistrate Court in Abuja where initial order to detain him was first obtained.
He however explained that the DSS had seen the need to further investigate the suspect following series of terror activities he was linked with.
Although details of the alleged terror activities of the suspect were not made public in the open court for security reasons, the lawyer pleaded with the judge to grant the request of the DSS in the interest of security.
In a brief ruling, Justice Lifu after scrutinizing documentary exhibits placed before him, ordered that the suspect be held in detention for 60 days only for further interrogation and investigation.
