From Idu Jude, Abuja
As the Edo State Gubernatorial election draws near, a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Thursday ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to publish Prince Yusuf Kadiri’s name as the Labour Party Deputy Governorship candidate in the forthcoming election.
The court sitting in Abuja on Thursday, 27 June 2024, in Suit No. FHC/ABJ/CS/556/2024 between the Labour Party and 3 others versus INEC, affirmed Prince Yusuf Asamah Kadiri as the Deputy Governorship candidate of the Labour Party in the Edo State gubernatorial election coming up on 21 September 2024.
While delivering the judgement, the judge stated clearly that the process of the nomination of Prince Yusuf Asamah Kadiri as the Deputy Governorship candidate of the Labour Party “over-complied” with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Electoral Act and subsidiary Guidelines, as well as the Constitution of the Labour Party.
The court consequently ordered INEC to accept and process the substitution of Yusuf Asamah Kadiri as the Deputy Governorship candidate of the Labour Party and accordingly publish his name on the list of candidates.
