Former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Senator Kanu Agabi, has said that Nigerians who have stolen monies abroad should repatriate them to help the country’s economy.
Agabi believes some political leaders in the country have cash starched at different locations in foreign lands.
The former AGF said this on the Commission’s podcast, Ethicspod, insisting that it no longer matters whether the money was obtained legitimately or otherwise.
He pointed out that fear of retribution has discouraged many of such individuals from returning these funds.
“If these funds are invested in critical sectors like education, power, or infrastructure, Nigeria would be on the path to self-reliance and gradually eliminating corruption,” Agabi said.
The former minister maintained that corruption cannot be eradicated overnight and would require time.
Agabi pointed out that leadership issues have been a major hindrance to the fight against corruption in Nigeria.
