The Director General of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Brigadier General Tusha’u Ahmed has disclosed that the monthly allowances for the Corps members would be increased after the Federal Government implemented the N70,000 new minimum wage.
Ahmed stated this his visit to the NYSC Orientation camp in Dakingari, Kebbi state where he addressed the major concerns of the Batch B stream 2 Corps Members and offered them guidance and solutions.
According to the statement by the state Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the NYSC, Hajiya Hadiza Idris, “the Director General commented on the confusion surrounding the increment of the NYSC allowance and assured Corps Members that it would be increased after the federal government implements the addition of the minimum wage.
“Dr. Y.D. Ahmed also assured Corps Members that they would be posted to safe environments. He stated, ‘NYSC would not post any Corps Members to an unsafe zone.’
“The Director General who as always gave his fatherly advise to Corps Members to follow their dreams and not lose hope, encouraging them to make the best out of their camp experience and maximize everything they’ve learned, urging Corps Members to take advantage of the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Department (SAED) and utilize the opportunity to become entrepreneurs”.
Ahmed was also qouted to have reminded the Corps Members of their obligations and cautioned them to refrain from unacceptable conduct, reminding the Corps Members to use social media platforms responsibly and to stay away from unlawful protests.
The DG NYSC however gifted the Corps Members three cows and asked the state Director to give them a day off to relax from the rigorous camp activities.
Earlier ,in a Security Lecture by the DSS, Mr Tony Odiwanor, spoke on national security and the role of Corps Members.
He explained how personal security was how to safeguarding oneself while national security is the ability of a nation to carter for the protection of it’s citizens, the corps members are government properties and whatever happens to them affects the government, Hence their security is paramount.
