The Congress of University Academics, Nnamdi Azikiwe University Chapter, has restated its commitment to a better welfare for its members.
The Coordinator of UNIZIK Chapter of the union, Prof. Chigozie Ezeonyejiaku, while addressing journalists in Awka, on Tuesday, pointed out that the recent emergence of CONUA in UNIZIK is aimed at providing a platform for academics to thrive.
Ezeonyejiaku stressed that the goal of the union is to achieve a stable academic environment and intellectual freedom while placing a strong premium on the welfare and concerns of the members.
He said, “The union fully commenced operations in UNIZIK on March 12, 2025, and I was fortunate to emerge as the pioneer coordinator. As you all know, CONUA, just like other sister unions in the university, is registered by the Federal Government to provide a platform for academics in Nigerian universities.
“The union prioritises welfare of academics, stable academic environment and intellectual freedom and the welfare of members in the institution is paramount.
“We call on the Federal Government to reverse the current brain-drain in the university system and prioritise funding of education for the future of the country.”
He also encouraged intending members to be part of CONUA and seize the opportunities presented by the union to not only improve themselves, but also to advocate and advance university education in Nigeria.
“Together, the academic community can be strengthened for optimal performance of every stakeholder in the sector,” he added.
