A coalition of groups, including Lawyers for the cause of Bauchi (LAWBA), Bauchi Gari Ya Waye Group, and the Human Rights Community in Nigeria (HURICON), has expressed grave concern over the desecration of traditional institutions in Northern Nigeria.
The group noted that the traditional institution is being ridiculed and politicized, leading to a loss of public trust and confidence.
They cited examples of title holders being removed or suspended for political reasons, including the recent withdrawal of the traditional title of Mujaddadin Bauchi from Senator Shehu Buba.
The coalition called on traditional leaders to redeem their image and fight back against political interference.
They also urged the government to address the real issues affecting the state, including transparency and accountability in the handling of state funds and resources.
The group declared that Bauchi is facing a leadership crisis, with leaders tolerating little or no opposing views and prioritizing politics over the welfare of citizens.
They concluded by emphasizing that Bauchi State belongs to all its citizens and that the upcoming local government elections will show if the people are ready to take action.
