Rt. Rev. Isaac Akin Falana has called for immediate action to address the rising divorce rates across the country
Speaking during the wedding ceremony of Oluwaseun Babatunde and Folorunsho-Alaba Obadeyi in Lagos, he emphasised the urgent need for measures to curb the growing number of divorces.
The cleric, who is bishop of Ifako Diocese of the African Church, expressed concern about the prevalence of divorce, particularly among couples who marry in churches and mosques.
“It is wrong for young couples to consider divorce as the best solution to any minor disagreement,” the cleric stated in his sermon.
He urged couples to resolve conflicts through dialogue and endurance, stressing that no marriage is perfect.
“Couples should endeavour to study and know their partners very well and strengthen the bond between them. They should try to understand each other, ensure unity, and show tolerance. A man is expected to love his wife and a woman is expected to show respect to her husband. These are quite important.”
Rt Rev. Falana also emphasised the importance of prayer in resolving marital issues. He advised couples to kneel and pray together when faced with problems, seeking solutions to end disagreements and restore their relationship.
Chief Bamidele Babatunde, father of the bride and Chairman/CEO of Glister Success Ltd, expressed his joy and excitement during the event, wishing the newlyweds a happy married life.
Emmanuel Aderemi Awode, group managing director of Chemstar Paints Industry and chairman of the occasion, underscored the significance of lifelong marriage. He emphasised the need for understanding and tolerance to promote emotional connection, effective communication, and conflict resolution among couples.
