Youth wing of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints has taken sanitation to an orphanage home in Makurdi, Benue State, as part of its selfless service to humanity.
The youths, including other members of the church, as early as 7:30am on Saturday, arrived the state government-owned Mama Abayol Orphanage Home, located at High Level Area of Makurdi, to do the cleaning.
After the cleaning, the youths also donated some sanitary items for use at the orphanage home.
The youth wing President, Diogo Terzungwe, who is the first counsellor Makurdi, Nigeria district presidency, said the cleaning, which is an annual event, tagged: “African Service Project,” was motivated by their belief in the sacrificial lifestyle of Jesus Christ to make everyone around them happy.
“We are here today at Mama Abayol Orphanage Home to render helping hands to them. We do this every year around August by going to a particular area and rendering service.
“Today, we choose Abayol Orphanage Home to help them do any work or chores that they will show us, including cleaning of toilets, washing of children’s clothes and sweeping the compound or any other thing to support the good works they have been doing.
“We are representing Jesus Christ to do what He would do. It is to show the world that Jesus Christ lives. What the Saviour came to do was to save us and also to serve us.”
President of Demekpe branch, Emmanuel Inalegwu, said the day was special for members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
“This particular programme is tagged an African Service Project. We go out to render services in our various units. For us, as members of the church being privileged to live the way the Saviour lived, we go out to make people around us happy.”
