… Launches one-stop shop website to empower Nigerians

Consumer Advocacy and Empowerment Foundation (CADEF) has launched a groundbreaking initiative, Distributed Energy Resources (DER) to accelerate Nigeria’s transition to clean energy. The DER, a one-stop shop is designed to empower consumers with the knowledge and resources needed to adopt renewable energy solutions.
With its user-friendly interface, the website equips consumers with essential information, tools, and resources to make informed decisions about adopting clean energy technologies.
Speaking at the unveiling in Lagos, the Executive Director of CADEF, Prof. Chiso Ndukwe-Okafor, highlighted the pressing need for accessible, accurate information about renewable energy systems, including solar panels, batteries, and charge controllers.
She said: “Many Nigerians interested in renewable energy lack the necessary knowledge to make informed decisions. This often leads to substandard installations, inflated costs, and frustration. The platform addresses this critical gap in the market by providing a comprehensive resource for Nigerians seeking to harness the power of renewable energy. The DER platform simplifies renewable energy adoption by providing essential resources and connecting consumers to verified installers, resellers, and financing options.”
The executive director explained that CADEF’s research revealed that many Nigerians face significant challenges when exploring distributed energy resources.
She said: “The DER one-stop shop addresses these issues by offering: Educational content with a clear explanations of technical terms, including types of batteries, charge controllers, and solar panels.”
The website also offer a solar energy calculator to help consumers estimate their energy needs and system costs.
Ndukwe-Okafor also told journalists the website has directory of certified installers, distributors, and resellers and also policy and incentive Information as well as guidance on government incentives, tax relief programs, and financing options.
She further explained: “With Nigeria experiencing severe energy shortages, unreliable electricity supply, and rising energy costs, renewable energy solutions have become a necessity.
“The DER platform empowers individuals, businesses, and communities by reducing dependency on unreliable grid power, promoting cleaner energy alternatives to combat climate change and supporting economic growth through job creation in the renewable energy sector.”
CADEF ED noted: “Our mission is to equip Nigerians with the tools to transition to clean energy efficiently and cost-effectively.
“This is not just about reducing carbon emissions; it’s about improving the quality of life and creating opportunities for sustainable development.”
CADEF is calling on NGOs, private sector stakeholders, financial institutions, and government agencies to collaborate on its Renew Energy Nigeria Initiative. By working together, the organization aims to increase public awareness and adoption of clean energy solutions.
Meanwhile, Prof. Ndukwe-Okafor leveraged the media roundtable to highlight CADEF’s mission and achievements. She provided a comprehensive overview of the foundation’s history, emphasizing its unwavering commitment to championing consumer rights and empowerment through transformative projects and strategic collaborations.
