The Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP), Dr Adebowale A. Adedokun, hosted the Director-General of Gombe State Due Process Bureau, Engr Mohammed Dauda Abubakar, during his visit to the BPP headquarters in Abuja.
The purpose of the visit was to explore collaborative opportunities and share the innovative steps undertaken by the Gombe State Due Process Bureau to transform the state’s public procurement processes through the use of technology.
Engr Mohammed Abubakar highlighted the development of a digital platform aimed at enhancing procurement transparency and efficiency. This includes a website offering comprehensive information on contracts and projects, alongside a mobile app and dashboard for real-time monitoring and management.
During the meeting, Engr Abubakar stressed the importance of integrating technology into procurement processes to address existing challenges and ensure greater accountability in project execution. He pointed out that Gombe State has made significant strides in its procurement processes through the adoption of new technologies, which could serve as a model at the national level.
Dr Adebowale expressed strong interest in Gombe State’s innovations, stating that the BPP is keen to adopt these technological solutions for public procurement on a national scale. He emphasised the potential benefits of implementing such advancements, particularly in areas like Community-Based Procurement and project monitoring, which could facilitate tracking projects from inception to completion nationwide.
The BPP Director-General also proposed that the Bureau carry out an advocacy visit to Gombe State’s Governor, His Excellency Alh Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya and the State House of Assembly to further brief them on the new procurement process and its wider implications.
Dr Adebowale commended the leadership demonstrated by Gombe State and reiterated the BPP’s commitment to collaborating with the Gombe State Due Process Bureau to improve procurement practices and governance across Nigeria.
Both the BPP and the Gombe State Due Process Bureau reaffirmed their dedication to this collaboration, which aims to foster greater transparency, efficiency, and accountability in Nigeria’s public procurement system, as noted in a statement by Zira Zakka Nagga, Head of Public Relations.
