Borno State Government has demanded a retraction and apology from online media and blogs over a false report claiming that Governor Zulum’s son killed someone.
This request was contained in a statement signed and made available to journalists by Abdurrahman Ahmed Bundi, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Borno on New Media, in Maiduguri on Wednesday.
The statement refuted false rumors circulating online that the governor’s son was arrested for the alleged murder of an Indian citizen.
According to the statement, the false report was disseminated by some online media, which claimed that the governor had traveled to India to use his diplomatic status to resolve the matter.
The statement clarified that Governor Babagana Zulum was on a one-month vacation in Saudi Arabia for the 2024 Hajj and later attended the annual ASUWAN forum conference in Cairo, Egypt. There is no truth to the report that the governor’s son was arrested or involved in any crime.
The Borno Government has warned the online media and other blogs that published the story to immediately remove the false information and offer an unreserved apology to Governor Zulum, his son, and the entire family within 24 hours or risk legal action.
The public has been urged to exercise caution when consuming and sharing information from unverified sources and blogs.
