Seven Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) personnel were ambushed by Boko Haram insurgents while on an inspection tour of the National Grid Installation along the boundaries between Niger and Kaduna states.
Out of the seven, four have been confirmed dead, one is still missing, and two have returned unharmed. This was disclosed today by the corps’ National Public Relations Officer, Babawale Zaid Afolabi, in a statement.
The Commandant General of NSCDC, Dr. Ahmed Audi, expressed his condolences to the officers and men of the Special Squad, which was set up to monitor the National Grid Installations in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State and other parts of the country. The squad came under heavy attack by Boko Haram terrorists.
Audi visited the injured personnel in medical facilities at around 6 pm today, where they are receiving treatment. He praised the gallantry, bravery, and courage shown by the operatives during the ambush and assured that the corps would cover all their medical expenses and welfare needs.
“The personnel showed unwavering determination and commitment to the service of their fatherland and deserve all the support they can get from the organization and the government,” he said.
The Commandant General condemned the terrorist attack as a brutal and devastating act of violence that resulted in widespread harm, destruction, and loss of life. He emphasized that such violence must not be allowed to continue, given the number of security operatives lost in similar attacks.
He offered his condolences to the families of the fallen heroes and prayed that the Almighty God grant them forgiveness and comfort, and place them in Aljanah Firdaus.
Audi also directed that funds be released to ensure the injured personnel receive maximum care for a swift recovery. Additionally, he assured that the Group Personal Accident/Group Life Insurance would be processed to support the victims and their families.
“The visit was important to see how they are faring and to encourage all personnel that the leadership of the Corps places a high value on their welfare and will never abandon them, especially in situations like this,” he assured.
The Commandant General extended his condolences to all NSCDC officers and personnel nationwide, urging them not to be discouraged by the attack but to remain vigilant and continue praying for God’s protection. He reminded them to observe all safety protocols in their fight against insecurity in Nigeria.
Audi also called on the public to offer their full support to the corps and other security agencies to ensure the safety of citizens and their property.
