The Bodija Foodstuffs Sellers Association at Bodija International Market, Ibadan has resolved its lingering leadership crisis with the election of new sets of leaders.
The election was presided over by Alhaji Sunmaila Aderemi Jimoh, President of Oyo State Market Men and Women Association, who praised Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde for his hands-off approach, allowing the market association to resolve its issues independently.
He commended Governor Makinde’s decision not to interfere played a significant role in ensuring that the process leading to the election of the new executives was transparent and devoid of political manipulation.
The highlight of the ceremony, however, was the recognition of Otunba Seye Famojuro, a key aide to Governor Makinde, for his pivotal role in mediating and resolving the crisis that had paralyzed the association for over a year. Famojuro was honoured with an award of appreciation and title of Atunluto of Bodija Market for his intervention, which was crucial in restoring peace and order within the association.
In his speech, Aderemi commended Famojuro’s wisdom and diplomatic skills, emphasizing that the market would still be in turmoil if not for his intervention.
“We wouldn’t be here today celebrating the swearing-in of the new executives if not for the efforts of Otunba Famojuro, who worked tirelessly to expose those who were using his and the governor’s names to push their selfish agenda,” Jimoh stated.
He went on to praise Famojuro’s leadership qualities, saying, “The type of leadership displayed by Otunba Famojuro is exactly what is needed to resolve crises in any organization or relationship. He called all stakeholders to the table, asked the right questions, and made it clear that neither he nor the governor had ever authorized the imposition of caretaker committees, as some had falsely claimed.”
Jimoh also highlighted how the conspirators had spread fear among the traders, falsely alleging that the governor supported their attempts to seize control of the association. Famojuro’s intervention, however, revealed the truth and cleared the way for free and fair elections.
“Otunba, we are incredibly grateful for your role in bringing transparency and peace to this process,” Alhaji Jimoh continued. “Your leadership has been exemplary, and we are presenting you with this award as a token of our deep appreciation. May God reward you far beyond what we have been able to do today.”
Meanwhile, the contributions made by the Chairman of Ibadan North Local Government Council and the Political Head Administrator of Aare Latosa Local Council Development Area (LCDA), as well as the former Political Head Administrator of Aare Latosa LCDA, did not go unnoticed. Alhaji Jimoh also commended them for their efforts.
