The Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has been given approval by the Benue State House of Assembly to commence the recruitment of over 9,000 teachers.
Recall that the recruitment exercise was suspended in December following an altercation between the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Mrs. Grace Adagba, and the State Assembly Ad-Hoc Committee led by Hon. Cephas Dyako.
The committee was tasked with investigating the exercise to ascertain whether extant laws were breached and whether due process was followed by the Board.
After a diligent investigation, the committee gave the Dr. Adagba-led Board a clean bill of health and lifted the ban on the recruitment of teachers in the state.
According to the report of the House Ad-Hoc Committee, the extant laws allowed the Board “to recruit, appoint, promote, and discipline teaching and non-teaching staff on grade levels 07 and above.”
The report revealed that 74,574 candidates applied for the recruitment, while a total of 48,895 candidates sat for the just-concluded Computer-Based Test (CBT).
Following the development, the Board has commenced the process, which is now in its final stages with the screening of applicants who met the cut-off marks.
In a statement issued by its Information Officer, Emmanuel Akese, the Board commended the patience of all the applicants shortlisted for the exercise.
The statement also assured all applicants of a smooth and transparent process for effective and quality basic education delivery.
According to the statement, the screening exercise, which will last a week, will commence on January 10, 2024, and end on January 16, 2024, with applicants from the 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state allotted specific dates for screening at the Board’s headquarters.
