Benue PDP passes vote of no confidence on publicity secretary, Bemgba Iortyom

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and stakeholders in Benue State have passed a vote of no confidence in the Publicity Secretary of the party, Bemgba Iortyom.

They asked Nigerians to be wary of vultures within the ranks of the party in Benue State.

Addressing a World Press Conference in Makurdi on Monday, the stakeholders vehemently refuted the recent outing of Iortyom on Television, where he claimed that the leadership of the party in Benue State will support President Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 Presidential election for fairness, equity and balance of the political equation.

The Stakeholders clarified that at no material time did the party mandate Iortyom to choose a presidential candidate for it, pointing out that his position is entirely his since he has the freedom to hold and dispense his freedom of speech and press as an adult and a citizen of Nigeria.

They further said the party remains supreme and will support all its candidates including the presidential candidate that will be chosen at the 2027 Presidential election from whichever part of Nigeria he or she may come from.

The statement read by Former Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Prof. Nicholas Ada, challenged the State Working Committee of the party to as a matter of urgency come up with its position disowning Iortyom’s claims concerning the 2027 presidential election.

“Benue PDP should set up a disciplinary committee to investigate and consequently punish Mr Iortyom for such unfortunate and indicting claims to serve as a deterrent to other members engaged in anti-party activities.

“From the forth-coming party congresses, only credible and committed party men and women should be elected into party leadership at all levels in order to avoid putting black sheep into the ring. ”

“Bemgba Iortyom has an unrepentant track record of anti-party activities.

“What the PDP needs at this material time is total overhaul and rebuilding instead of baseless argument over who flies the party’s Presidential Ticket in an election that is far three years away.”
