The Benue State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) has commenced distribution of food and non food items for the year 2025.
The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management and Benue-SEMA, Sir James lorpuu, who addressed newsmen during the distribution on Tuesday, said the state government remains steadfast in its commitment to providing relief and support to the thousands of families affected by armed conflict in the state.
He appreciated Governor Hyacinth Alia for restoring hope, dignity, and livelihoods to the internally displaced persons (IDPs) in our state, and described the launch of the Benue State Action Plan for a Durable Solution for IDPs in Benue State as one of the most commendable steps taken by the state Governor.
He said the comprehensive plan is not just about providing immediate relief but also about creating sustainable pathways for the safe return, reintegration, and empowerment of the displaced population.
Iorpuu also noted that the flag-off of the IDP farm project at Tyo-Mu, targeting Six local government areas heavily affected by displacement, is a giant leap. He explained that farm project is not only aimed at addressing food security challenges but also at equipping IDPs with the means to rebuild their lives through agricultural productivity.
Iorpuu said “By targeting six LGAs, Guma, Logo, Kwande, Agatu, Makurdi and Gwer West, this initiative will significantly contribute to economic recovery, skill development, and self-reliance among the IDPs.
He appreciated SEMA staff for their tireless efforts and prayed for the quick recovery of some of SEMA’s staff members who were recently involved in an accident while returning from work.
While also thanking partners who assisted the state for the well-being of the affected population, he appealed to all beneficiaries to ensure that the items are used judiciously. They include bags of rice, cartons, noodles, bags of sugar among others
