The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu has expressed sympathy for the victims who lost valuable items to the fire incident at the Onitsha Main Market in Anambra recently.
Recall that a fire outbreak broke out on Saturday at the popular Onitsha main market in the state’s commercial hub, from one of buildings located in the market and quickly spread, leading to the the loss of valuables.
Kalu, in a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Assistant, Press Affairs, Udora Orizu, urged the relevant security agencies to swiftly investigate the incident to determine the cause and prevent future occurrences.
He commended the fire service agency and individuals “who made efforts in ensuring that the inferno was put off,” and urged the traders and residents to “adhere to safety regulation and precautionary measures to prevent future occurrences.”
Kalu, who expressed relief that no life was lost, called on the National Emergency Management Agency and other relevant agencies to immediately provide relief materials for victims to cushion the effect of the tragedy.
