From Ighomuaye Lucky, Benin
A socio-cultural group envisioned to unite, inspire, and empower the Benin people has been unveiled in Benin City, Edo state.
Speaking at the formal unveiling ceremony, the President of BCF and former Inspector-General of Police Dr. Solomon Arase, declared: “Today is a defining moment for the Benin people.
The BCF is more than an organization. It is a movement—a rallying cry for unity, empowerment, and collective progress. Our mission is simple but profound, to provide a platform for the expression of our shared identity, to empower the Benin people, and to promote our social, political, economic, and cultural causes.
“Our membership includes Benins at home and abroad, and for whom integrity, excellence, amity, and justice are irreducible values”
Emphasising that the Benin Consultative Forum is non-partisan, the former Inspector-General of Police however noted that its members are conscious of the fact that there are a number of other associations whose objectives are either completely or partially in alignment in with the goals and aspirations of BCF. “We shall, therefore, reach out to our brothers and sisters across multiple platforms in order to synergize and actualize the greater Benin interest” He added.
In an unwavering voice, the BCF president stated that the music of societal progress is changing. He said further in this regard: “The music has indeed changed, and it is time for us to adapt our steps to the rhythm of progress and transformation”
Specifically, Arase spelt out the added value the BCF is brining on board to include: The celebration and preservation of the rich cultural heritage of the Benin people, inspiring and grooming future leaders who will champion worthy causes, fostering unity among Benins home and abroad; and the advancement of social, economic and educational interests of our people
According to Arase, the broad vision of the BCF is to see a united Benin people, thriving in every sphere of life and contributing meaningfully to society and nicely contained by the well-known African proverb which says “Broom-sticks in a bundle are unbreakable.”
“Together, we are stronger, and together, we will build a future worthy of our ancestors’ legacy. He added.
The occasion was also used to honour two BCF members- Professor Edoba Omoregie and Rt Hon Dr. Samson Osagie who were recently appointed Vice Chancellor, University of Benin and Hon Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice, Edo State respectively.
Prior to their appointments, Omoregie was the Secretary of the BCF while Osagie served as the association’s vice president.
Arase charged the honorees to work tirelessly to enhance the ranking of UNIBEN as a premier institution for teaching, learning, and research while Osagie was urged to live up to the expectations of the people by upholding the principles while promoting equity and progress and the elevation of the rule of law in Edo State.
The BCF is an assemblage of right-thinking Edo sons and daughters (in the state, Nigeria and worldwide) who are sufficiently occupied about how to advance the fortunes of the Benin nation in our contemporary world.
