THE Beijing Legacy for Global Advancement has honoured the Chairman of the Tribune titles, Dr Olatokunbo Awolowo Dosumu, over her dedication to the preservation of socio-cultural, political heritage and advancing women in leadership.
The award ceremony, which was held as a parallel event during the 69th session of the Commission for the Status of Women (CSW69), marked a historic celebration of Afro-Asian unity, leadership and women’s empowerment.
Awolowo Dosumu, a former Nigerian Ambassador to the Netherlands was recognised in the women in Power and Decision-Making Category for her lifelong dedication to the advancement of women in leadership.
Highlighting the reasons for bestowing the award on her, the organization said, “Her diplomatic service as Nigeria’s ambassador to the Netherlands and her role as a representative to the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) further underscore her influence in global policy and multilateral cooperation.
“Through these roles, she has championed peace, security, and ethical leadership-principles that align with the Beijing Legacy Award’s mission of bridging continents for a fairer world.
“Dr Awolowo Dosumu’s recognition was rooted in her transformative impact on women’s leadership and cultural preservation, breaking barriers in governance: As a trailblazer in male-dominated spheres, she has paved the way for future generations of women in government, diplomacy, and civil society.
“Cultural Stewadship: Through the Obafemi Awolowo foundation, she has preserved Nigeria’s historical legacy while promoting inclusive development.
“Global Advocacy: Her work exemplifies the synergy between European, American, African, and Asian values of community, equity, and intergenerational leadership”.
The organisation however noted that the award given to Awolowo Dosumu celebrated not only her individual achievements, but also the collective potential of leadership to inspire global progress, noting that the award reaffirmed the power of cross continental collaboration in advancing gender equality and sustainable development.
