Be resilient – Doyin Okupe tells AirPeace boss how to survive price war

A former spokesman of the Peter Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Organisation, Doyin Okupe, on Friday, pointed out how Air Peace can survive the price war with other foreign airlines.

Okupe said Air Peace must be bold and resilient to wade off the price competition from other airlines operating the international routes.

Posting on X, Okupe said the Nigerian airline must be prepared for non-profit operation for one year.

According to Okupe: “Airpeace can survive the price war. Management must be bold & resilient. Be prepared for non-profit operations for a maximum of 1 year. It costs about $100k per flight with about 350 passengers. About 4k passengers travel to the UK per day. Even with two flights daily, they will need less than 20% of the market.”

In March, Air Peace began its flight service from Nigeria to London, with its destination being the Gatwick Airport. The introduction led to the slash of airfare by almost half.

Following Air Peace’s commencement of the Nigeria-London route, other airlines slashed their fares.

The Chairman of Air Peace, Allen Onyema, in reaction to the development raised alarm that foreign carriers operating the Nigeria-UK route are allegedly conspiring to send his carrier out of international operations by crashing airfares on the route.

Onyema alleged that there is an “unspoken alliance” among foreign airlines to use lower pricing to eject Air Peace from the Nigeria-London route.
