The President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mr Yakubu Maikyau (SAN), on Thursday, urged lawyers to press forward and be deliberate in efforts towards getting it right as a country.
The NBA boss said the primary call for lawyers is to provide direction to the people and advance the course of the country and as such, should press forward in getting it right as a country.
He stressed the need for all hands to be on deck in building a country that will be to the benefit of all.
Maikyau was speaking in Abuja while unveiling the logo and the theme of the 2024 Annual General Conference of the Association.
Performing the unveiling ceremony at the NBA house in Abuja, Maikyau said the theme of this year’s Annual General Conference of the NBA is “Pressing forward a national posture for rebuilding Nigeria”.
He said the logo of the conference is an eagle because of the strength, boldness, courage and other good qualities of the eagle.

Maikyau said, “Storms don’t intimidate the eagle, neither does the eagle feed on dead animals but on fresh prey. So, anything that connotes a corrupt meal should not be found on the table of a lawyer.
“We are deliberate in our efforts towards rebuilding the country. Nigeria is endowed with natural and human resources. God has provided all we need to enjoy in this country but our attitude did not allow us to achieve that”, he added.
According to the NBA boss, the Conference will hold between August 23rd and 30th, 2024 in Lagos state and added that every Nigerian must have the posture for rebuilding the country.
The conference, which will speak to three thematic issues of economy, security and Justice administration, has the Director General of the World Trade Organization, Dr. Okonjo Iweala as the guest speaker.
Also speaking at the event, the chairperson of the 2024 Annual General Conference Planning Committee, Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, said no fewer than 20,000 lawyers are expected to attend this year’s conference of the NBA.
She said her committee will not fail in its task of organizing a memorable annual general conference for the NBA.
