Top officials of the Bayelsa State Government and representatives of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, Niger Delta University, NDU, Amassoma are currently meeting over the industrial action embarked upon by the union since December.
The lecturers in NDU had decided to embark on strike following the state government’s neglect of their welfare and repeated indifference to implementing agreements reached with the union.
Governor Douye Diri had upon resumption from his annual leave appealed to the striking lecturers to resume.
Still, his appeal was rejected, as the union insisted the state government must fulfill its side of the bargain and implement the agreements reached.
The meeting currently ongoing at Education House, Yenagoa, has the Commissioner for Education, Dr. Gentle Emelah, his Information, Orientation, and Strategy, counterpart, Mrs. Ebiuwou Koku-Obiyai, and Labour and Productivity Commissioner, Saturday Omilololi representing the government.
ASUU was led to the meeting by the Chairman, Dr Oyinkepreye Lucky Bebeteideh.
