Bauchi State Deputy Governor, Mohammed Auwal Jatau who is the Chairman of the State Council on Nutrition on Thursday said that the Council will work out modalities of developing a comprehensive, multi-sectoral nutrition strategy for the state.
Speaking at the inaugural meeting of the State Council on Nutrition held at the conference hall of his office, Auwal Jatau said the council will take a hard look at the nutrition situation in the state by identifying the key drivers and barriers and put forward an actionable plan to address them.
He noted that improving nutrition and the health outcomes for the people of the state is a key priority for the present administration of Governor Bala Mohammed and pointed out that, the governor has made a firm commitment to strengthening nutrition policies and programs as he has recognizes that good nutrition is fundamental to the overall development and wellbeing of the state and its people.
The Deputy Governor said the State Council on Nutrition is to serve as the highest policy-making body on Nutrition and related activities in the state and coordinate all efforts towards ensuring sustainable food security in the State in line with priority of the governor as contained in his my “Bauchi Project” volume 2.0.

“As a Government, we have recognised that good nutrition does not happen by chance – it requires purposeful, sustained investment and action, hence the need for you – as respected experts, policymakers, and community leaders – to bring your knowledge, skills and passion to this Council. We must work together to elevate nutrition as a top development priority in Bauchi.”
Auwal Jatau used the medium to express gratitude to Development partners for their continuous support and assistance towards ensuring the reduction of malnutrition in the state and assured them that the state government is fully committed to providing the financial resources, and institutional support needed to implement nutrition strategies effectively.
Development partners that spoke at the meeting reiterated their support to the state government and in particular to the State Nutrition Council in order to achieve the desired objectives as contained in a statement by Muslim Lawal, Special Assistant (Media) Office of the Deputy Governor.
